About Henry Street Garden Centre – past & present
You’ll find we’re pretty down-to-earth here at Henry Street
We absolutely love everything to do with gardens, plants, pets and the outdoor lifestyle, and we’re renowned for our horticultural expertise. Roses are our specialist subject, and people come to us for them from all over southern England and beyond. We’ve been growing roses for nearly 100 years and have over 350 varieties!
Our enthusiasm and dedication have earned us an unrivalled reputation throughout the region for our friendly, helpful service and willingness to share our knowledge with customers. An important factor in our success is the way we engage with our customers: so if you have any gardening questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
And do look out for our regular free events, such as rose pruning and care demonstrations – we want to help you get the most out of your gardening.
Our 40 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside is now in the care of the fifth generation of our family – brothers Mark, Peter, Alan and Tim Goold are very much hands-on in running our independent family firm. We look forward to assisting you, and hope you will get as much pleasure from owning our plants as we do from growing them.
Potted history
The business was the creation of Mr. Henry Street at the beginning of the 1900s. Henry had three daughters, the eldest being Molly, who married Reginald Goold. Together, they continued rose growing at West End, near Woking, and eventually the nursery was taken over by Molly and Reg’s son, Henry, in the 1970s. In 1985, we moved to Arborfield, where ‘cleaner’ soil and larger premises allowed for expansion and Henry’s four sons, Mark, Alan, Peter and Tim were able to join the business, which they now run.
